Badass Women

In the next two months, I get to see some of my heroes in person.

I AM SO EXCITED.

In September, I get to see Julie Ertz and Morgan Brian play for the Chicago Red Stars. In October, I get to see Miranda Lambert and Maren Morris tour together.

And to top it all off, then I get to see Carrie Underwood.

It’s entirely possible I am simply going to spontaneously combust before this year’s pumpkins ripen.

I’m excited because these are some of the badass women who inspire me to keep going. When life is difficult, when I’m not sure where I’m going or why, when I start to question everything, I can look at them.

When I don’t get a full pay check because the missionary life is tricky, I look at Julie Ertz. She isn’t even getting paid what she deserves as a professional athlete, and she still spends every single day working on her soccer skills. Every day, you guys. I watch Julie slide tackle one of her friends because she is SERIOUS when it comes to winning, and I know I can keep going.

When I feel like the world is against me, like people don’t understand me or are out to get me, I look at Miranda Lambert. She gets raked across the coals by journalists at least once a month, where they display her worst personal moments for all to see. But she just writes a song about it and puts on higher heels and keeps going. I watch Miranda belt it out to thousands, regardless of what they think of her, and I know I can keep going.

When I’m tired and feel like I have too much going on to take care of myself, I look at Carrie Underwood. She gave birth in January and started an international tour in May. On tour, she works out in a tiny, windowless room on her bus, while her infant sleeps and her toddler plays nearby. I watch Carrie lift weights between shows and I know I can get out of bed and go to the gym before work. I can keep going.

These women, overcoming obstacles of gender, money, injuries, and haters, inspire me. I look at them and think, “If she can do that, I can answer emails, make coffee, have hard conversations.” I am grateful for their hard work, persistence, and sassy personalities, because they remind me that if they can do it, so can I.

What badass women inspire you?
