If you’re wondering what happened in the original Frog Hunting or Frog Hunting – Episode 2, I’d recommend going back to read them. But if you don’t have time for that, here’s the quick synopsis: I occasionally go on dates with men I met on the internet, and the results have varied between deadly boring and wildly entertaining.

I have to be honest, friends. This is beginning to feel like the low point on this journey.
See, on every grand adventure, there are times that feel exciting and like you will make it no matter the obstacles. There are often funny times, like deciding to save money by eating in the car on the way but then accidentally dumping an entire container of Ramen noodles on the passenger seat and having to clean it up with a beach towel so you can sit there. (Not that I’ve ever done that…) Sometimes there are unexpected side adventures. But no matter what, on any real journey, there are also times where you get car sick and you are tired and demoralized and ready to quit. It’s the cycle of adventure.
For evidence, I submit this one minute clip from How I Met Your Mother, taken from the middle of a thousand mile road trip:
Whenever I get tired on a journey, I hear Marshall’s voice: “Don’t worry, it comes around again.”
Here we are, 3+ years into my Frog Hunting adventure, and I am tired. I am tired of explaining what I do and what CrossFit is and why I go to church. I am tired of trying to assess whether or not I could spend the rest of my life with someone based on their height and eye color. I am tired of trying to figure out how a date is going. I am tired of asking myself, “Can I stand to spend one more hour with this person?” I am car sick and demoralized.

But I also know that to give up on the adventure now would be silly. The point was never to find a husband on the internet, the point was to become a better human. To become someone that can recognize a good fit when I see him. To grow. And really, I’m doing that. Just by continuing the journey, I am continuing to grow.
Besides, who knows what might come next in the cycle of adventure! It’ll come around again, and I wouldn’t want to miss whatever it is.
Do you have any life adventures you are tired of? What do you do to keep yourself going?
