I’m sick.

Like, “I slept 13 hours last night and have been diffusing Thieves oil since yesterday morning (thanks, Susan!) and am coughing too much to have a normal conversation” kind of sick. Unfortunately, I’m not the only one. I think approximately half of us are sick right now – at least here in the midwest where the weather keeps changing by 10-15 degree increments. We’re basically a few dead cornfields full of respiratory viruses and fall allergies.
Which, I believe, means that this season is not as great as it pretends to be.
So, in direct response to my own “pro fall” list from last week, here is the other side.

WHY FALL SUCKS, a three-point list:
- Enough with the pumpkin already. As someone who has never been crazy about pumpkin anything, it’s weird to watch the entire population rejoice over something that I find just all around “meh.” It’s like fall has one flavor and if you don’t like it, sucks to be you.
- Halloween. Now that it’s behind us, I feel like I can safely speak my dislike of the holiday without having my car egged overnight. I’ve seen some clever costumes and fun decorations, but the entire holiday revolves around deception. It’s like April Fools day but it also rots your teeth. I’ve never particularly enjoyed being scared, maybe because my sister set up the most epic haunted house of all time when I was a kid and nothing compares to that experience (story for another day). So between being “eh, whatever” on candy, being an intense arachnophobe who has to brace herself for a fake spider on every corner, and not caring about being frightened, this for me is the lamest holiday.
- The most obvious: fall leads to winter. Now, the interesting thing here is that I don’t actually mind winter. I like living somewhere that has four seasons, and we all know that Christmas has some perks. But after Christmas comes three months of below-zero temperatures and scraping your windshield with your credit card because you broke your ice scraper the day after Christmas and are too broke from Christmas to buy a new one. Going straight from cozy and pretty fall to frozen snot and cracked skin is NOT my idea of a good time.

What do you think? Is fall all bliss and joy and pumpkin spice for you? Or are there some things you don’t like?
Note: It was hard to find photos to put in this post because everything is so unnecessarily CREEPY. Which I think supports my point.
