Quarantine Christmas

Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, a few creatures were stirring, because it was dang hot inside.

Last week, my friends and I celebrated Quarantine Christmas. It was such a success that I decided to share it with you, in case you wanted to have a QC of your own. I know, I’m the best. You’re welcome.

See, it started because one of my roommates confessed to never having seen the movie White Christmas. This was such an appalling revelation that we decided December was simply not soon enough to remedy the situation. (The way 2020 is moving, December feels like a decade away. Do you guys realize the Australian wildfires were this year? In JANUARY. Remember January? Doesn’t that feel like a lifetime ago?!) Because my friends are bored and isolated, we decided that simply watching White Christmas was not enough. We would actually have Christmas! And because I never half-ass a celebration, it turned into a whole Christmas season.

It was 10 days, and we assembled a variety of virtual events, including a Christmas read-aloud and a caroling session that somehow ranged from Garth Brooks to Bing Crosby to Joy to the World to Lizzo? (Don’t ask, because I can’t explain it.)

The buy-in for this event was participation in a gift exchange, and that was the most absurd (and therefore best) part: you could not purchase anything, you had to give something you made or already owned. The creativity and ridiculous nature of what occurred was genuinely delightful.

Overall, I would say QC was a success. Odd, yes. Slightly tiring to organize, also yes. But memorable. And isn’t that what we need right now? (I know I wrote a whole post on this topic, feel free to go back for that.)

So. Now that we’re months into this thing, and “normal” isn’t really on the horizon, how are you making this memorable?
