Lord, Hear Our Prayer

Lord, hear our prayer.

For days, I’ve been whispering those words over and over.

When my white friend doesn’t listen before she speaks,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When my black friend is exhausted to the point of tears,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When my Asian friend is spit on and shoved,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When my immunocompromised friend can’t go to the grocery store,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When bullets echo in my city,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When a grandmother dies alone in a hospital room,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When a bride walks down the aisle without her mother watching,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When a local business owner has to lay off his employees,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When a police officer is scared and also wants to do the right thing,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When cancer takes a child from his parents,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When fear steals from us,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When anger burns us,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When pride deafens us,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When anxiety blinds us,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When depression lies to us,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When pain isolates us,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When beauty and hope and love elude us,

Lord, hear our prayer.

When there is nowhere to turn but to You,

Lord, hear our prayer.
