Other Creators

Oh hey.

Maybe you noticed – it’s been a little rough going lately.

I wrote a whole frustrated post about how my friends who are people of color and/or high empathy are exhausted because you keep asking them questions and starting social media battles, the bottom line of which was “could you please just go read a book for a few minutes and let my friends get some damn rest?!” But I know that’s not a helpful thing to post. We need challenging, real art and content to help us process and move forward, not half-assed reprimands that aren’t my place to deliver.

So, since I don’t have replacements for the words I need to not say, I would like to point you toward some really great creators this week that are not me.

Luvvie Ajayi: author, blogger, podcaster, hilarious straight-shooter that I really enjoy. Start with this post on gratitude.

Austen Channing Brown: author of I’m Still Here, she also has a video series, email subscription, podcast, and some blog posts. Start with her book or this blog post.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe: Yeah, I know I’m really throwing it back here. But have you listened to the “original soul sister” in a while? She’s considered the inspiration of rock and roll. Like all of rock and roll. I’ve spent a few hours with her lately, especially listening to Ain’t No Grave Hold My Body Down. But for the full effect, start with a video of her.

If you have any recommendations for me in return, I’d love to hear them!
