The Free Time Quandary

I’m taking today to do whatever I want, and honestly I’m feeling a bit of a quandary.

Recently, my quarantine family and I decided to have a spontaneous new experiences day. We went to a rib joint we’d passed every day for weeks but never actually eaten at, we walked in a new part of town, we even played on a new playground. And it was delightful! New experiences, new faces, new things.

Sometimes I like doing new things. Spontaneity and unexpected things bring fresh air and joy.

And sometimes I like doing familiar things. Favorite coffee shop, favorite sweatshirt, favorite book. Known and expected things bring comfort and peace.

So now, facing a day today where I’m allowing myself to do whatever I want, I don’t know what I want. Do I want new experiences and spontaneity and fun, or comfort and known and peace?

Which made me wonder: what would you do if you had an unplanned day to do whatever you wanted?

Genuine question that I’m asking you, my friends. What would you do with 24 free hours to do with as you choose? And why?

I want to hear your ideas and your reasoning. Ready? Go.
