Creatures of Habit

Hello! So sorry for my recent silence. It was genuinely unintentional.

One of those, “Oh, @&%#, it’s Friday afternoon and I didn’t write a blog post” things. Twice.

And here I am, after only two weeks of forgetting, finding myself staring at a blank laptop page and thinking, “How did I even come up with things to write about? Why is it so hard to think? Have the backs of my hands always looked this wrinkly??”

See, it’s very easy to get off-topic, distracted, and confused. It’s especially easy when you get out of the habit of focusing.

So, to ease myself back in here’s the simple theme for this blog post:

Habits.

I really only have a few habits I keep. I’m almost to a year of studying Hebrew daily. I used to be very consistent at posting on my blog. I edit and publish a podcast once a week. I go to the gym on Saturday mornings if I’m not working. I…ummm…no really that might be it. But those few habits keep me in a steady daily and weekly rhythm, that, when upended, causes my entire brain to malfunction. I suddenly can’t think of a damn thing to write about, can’t remember the Hebrew word for anything, and begin to suspect that I never even liked working out in the first place.

This means that I have to keep my habits, or, at the very least, push back into them when I get sidetracked (as we inevitably do.)

So here I am, pushing back into a habit.

What about you? What habits do you want to get back into, and how will you do it?
