Friday Frights

Friday Frights on a blank page

You’ve heard of the Sunday Scaries, right? It’s that feeling where you want to enjoy the second half of your weekend, but you can’t shake the reminder that Monday is coming. I used to get a huge case of the Sunday Scaries in college, when I dreaded dragging myself out of bed for my 8 am classes the next day. There was never enough coffee or cafeteria muffins (Mystery Flavor, obviously) to make Monday mornings feel doable, so on Sundays, I would get anxious for what was coming.

Well, now, as an adult, I feel like I have a bad case of the Friday Frights.

“But it’s Friday!” I hear you say. “It’s almost the weekend! You’ve almost made it!”

I know.

But that’s the problem.

The weekend is almost here, and all I want to do for two days is eat and sleep and read (and maybe work out with my friends), and I don’t want anything to interrupt me. Which means, I have to have all my life tasks in order before Saturday morning hits.

The includes, but of course is not limited to, the following:

  • Cleaning my bedroom (there’s nothing like waking up to a clean room on Saturday morning, amiright?)
  • Prepping meals or at least buying groceries (because who wants to spend their Saturday in line at Aldi only to have to come home and cook food? Not this girl)
  • Paying bills and all that stupid adult nonsense
  • Oh, and I guess, like, doing my job? (Answering emails on weekends should be against the law)

And that’s just a lot of pressure to put on one poor little Friday! Fridays were made for windows down, radio up, not angsty late-night cleaning.

Consequently, I’m trying to be better about planning my weeks and doing life tasks as I go, but–your girl is not a planner. She’s a “by vibes only” kind of girl. And getting all these things done before Friday is not going particularly well.

So tell me: do you ever get the Friday Frights? And if so, what do you do about it? Or really, if you don’t, I want to know what you’re doing, because clearly I need more of whatever you’ve got going on.
