Yesterday, I tumbled out of bed and stumbled to the kitchen to pour myself a cup of ambition and I was met with this declaration of my 10-year anniversary:

My roommate, whose head retains dates for approximately 18 years and 27 days longer than mine, remembered that, exactly 10 years ago, I walked into my first ever CrossFit gym. I was scared, nervous, and excited. By the end of the hour, I knew: I adored it.
You may be thinking, “Didn’t we talk about CrossFit last week?” Well, yes, but that post was about consistency. This is about…ummm…a different kind of consistency? Look, it’s my blog and you read it for free, so I’ll talk about CrossFit if I want to talk about CrossFit. But I promise there will be something here for everyone. JK, I couldn’t possibly promise that, who do you think I am, Meryl Streep?? But I can promise to try to have something for everyone. Cool? Cool. Moving on.

When I walked into that gym in 2013, I had no idea what I was getting into. I had no idea that I’d meet some of my best friends at the gym, that I’d gain confidence, that I’d learn all about nutrition and weightlifting, or that I would someday know how to manage a rowdy crowd of athletes. I had no idea I’d get the honor of coaching a professional CrossFitter. I had no idea that I would be able to run a sub-30:00 5K on a random Thursday. I had no idea I would be able to do 100 pull-ups in one workout like I’m about to do on Monday for the 5th year in a row. I had no idea what I was capable of.
And that’s my point today. See? It’s not just about consistency.
It’s about the fact that you, like me, have no idea what you’re capable of.

You can’t know until you try. Until you put the work in. I’ve come and gone from CrossFit some – I’ve certainly lacked consistency over the years, especially during my touring era – but I’ve always come back to it. I’ve been eager to see what I can do “someday maybe.”
Those elusive words. “Someday maybe.” Someday I can climb that mountain. Someday maybe I’ll learn French. Someday maybe I’ll start a small business. Someday maybe.

Maybe you can’t do it. But what if you can? What if you’re capable of doing so much more than you think you are, regardless of your age, circumstances, or physical health? What if all you need to accomplish more than you ever dreamed is just to show up, and see what happens? And keep showing up? And keep seeing what happens?
What if today is day one, counting up to your 10-year anniversary, and you will celebrate this day as the day you showed up? What do you think?
